One of the key professional skills as a lawyer throughout any legal career is that of establishing and maintaining new/existing client relationships. Every client relationship is idiosyncratic in its own way, and it is therefore important in any legal practice to appreciate and navigate all client relationships in an appropriate manner depending on the specific transaction and overall circumstances.

In this session, our panellists will discuss a number of relevant points as well as provide their own unique experiences in managing client relationships and communications in their everyday professional lives, with a focus on important tips for newly qualified/practising lawyers and experienced lawyers alike.

Session details

International arbitration cases submitted to various worldwide arbitration institutions are believed to have increased by to up fivefold in the past half century or so.

This was of course in large part due to the UN Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards (New York, 10 June 1958) which – amongst other things – simplified and streamlined the process of recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in contracting/convention/signatory states, however it is also the result of individual jurisdictions increased enhancement and infrastructure in supporting international commercial arbitration.

In this session, our panel of arbitration/dispute resolution experts will delve into recent and current international commercial arbitration trends, cases and enforcement from the viewpoint of their respective jurisdictions of practice as well as provide useful insights into the handling of arbitration cases for newly qualified lawyers and more generally.

Oftentimes, whilst knowledge and ability will advance your case, matter or transaction, it is the core professional skills of lawyering that will ensure your case makes it across the line. Among these is the professional skill of negotiation which, depending on the size and complexity of a particular case, matter or transaction, can be invaluable for any lawyer in their day-to-day practice.

For this session, our panellists will be providing useful insights into how to hone and improve negotiation skills as part of any lawyers’ professional toolkit in tackling all manner of transactions.

Well-being issues are affecting lawyers’ ability to do their jobs, according to new data from Bloomberg Law published in September 2024.

With the increasing demand placed on the legal profession due, in part, to the increasingly competitive and technological environment, the topic of lawyer well-being is increasingly – and rightly – at the forefront of conversations in the context of legal careers/practices.

For this session, our panellists will identity and discuss several highlighted issues with lawyer well-being in general as well as propose existing and novel solutions to tackle this ubiquitous issue faced by a large number of law practices worldwide.
