Biography
Warren E. Agin is an expert in the areas of legal data analytics, applied artificial intelligence, and digital transformation within the legal industry in addition to his decades of legal practice experience. As Senior Director for Contract Intelligence at Clearlaw, Warren provides legal subject matter expertise, directs its expansion of contract intelligence capabilities, and contributes to development of its machine learning systems. Warren has also published multiple papers on the application of machine learning techniques to legal case outcomes in the bankruptcy field.
Before joining Clearlaw to lead its contract intelligence development work, he was a Managing Director in Elevate Services’ Products Division and a member of its Global Leadership Team, where he worked with Elevate’s product management and development teams to build artificial intelligence into Elevate’s offerings. Mr. Agin also founded the ABA’s Legal Analytics Committee, which helps business lawyers understand how to use artificial intelligence and other analytic techniques. A practicing lawyer for almost thirty years, Mr. Agin has taught legal analytics as an adjunct professor at Boston College Law School and served on the Governing Council for the ABA’s Center for Innovation. Prior to his career as a legal technologist, Warren was a partner at Swiggart & Agin, LLC, a corporate and bankruptcy boutique he co-founded in 2000, and served as a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee.
Warren authored the books Bankruptcy and Secured Lending in Cyberspace, 3rd Ed. (West, 2007)(the first book to discuss the use of technology in bankruptcy practice), and the Bankruptcy and Intellectual Property Deskbook (ABA, 2016), and frequently lectures on using machine learning and data in legal practice.
He has a degree in Business Administration, with a minor in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis and a JD from Boston College Law School.
