Biography
Sally Hutton, who has been the Managing Partner of leading South African law firm Webber Wentzel since 2015, is also a private equity expert specialising in merger and acquisition transactional work for private equity funds. Her expertise includes all aspects of transactional work including structuring, consortium and shareholder arrangements, management participation arrangements, Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) structures, funding structures and reorganisations and restructures.
With a distinguished legal career spanning nearly three decades, Sally has played a pivotal role in numerous high-profile private equity transactions within the South African landscape. Her exceptional knowledge and skills have garnered international recognition from esteemed research organisations, including Chambers Global and Legal 500.
Sally's contributions to the profession were further exemplified when she received the prestigious "Woman Professional of the Year", the "Professional of the Year - Law Class" and the highly coveted "South African Professional of the Year - Overall Winner" awards at the South African Professional Services Awards as well as the IFLR Women DealMakers Hall of Fame at the 2024 IFLR Africa Awards.
Sally holds a BA(LLB) (magna cum laude) from the University of Cape Town, an LLM (Taxation) (cum laude) from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Master of Studies (Legal Research) from the University of Oxford. She has also completed a course in Leading Professional Services firms at Harvard Business School.
