Description

Money Laundering Regulations and the obligations of lawyers – the role of Bar Associations

Globally, bar associations play a major role in implementing, enforcing and supporting anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regimes. This has implications for the independence of the legal profession and the conduct of legal practice. This session, hosted by the Japan Federation of Bar Associations and the Law Council of Australia, will provide perspectives on how bar associations have responded to AML/CTF regulation of the legal profession, engaged with governments on the implementation of recommendations of the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF), developed guidance and training for lawyers, and navigated the interaction between statutory and professional obligations.
