Rahul Narayan
Biography
Rahul Narayan is a Senior Partner at Chandhiok & Mahajan, where he heads the Dispute Resolution Practice. He is dual qualified in India and in England & Wales, is an Advocate on Record in the Supreme Court of India, and sits as an arbitrator. His practice is built around the proposition that the most consequential legal problems — whether in a constitutional court, an arbitral tribunal, or a regulatory proceeding — require both a precise understanding of the applicable law and a willingness to look further than a conventional specialist would. He has appeared before five and nine-judge constitutional benches of the Supreme Court in some of the most significant cases of the past decade, including matters involving privacy, surveillance, constitutional amendments, reservations policy, and the regulation of technology platforms. His commercial and arbitral practice spans construction, energy, maritime, taxation, data protection, and cross-border disputes involving parties across multiple jurisdictions. Rahul is particularly sought after where the law is unsettled, the problem sits at the intersection of several disciplines, or the stakes require an advocate who can construct an argument from first principles rather than rely on settled precedent. His dual qualification gives him genuine fluency useful in transnational disputes. He writes and teaches as natural extensions of the same practice — not as ancillary activities but as the places where he works out, in public, what the law is doing and where it is going. His writing has appeared in specialist publications such GAR, LiveLAw, Bar & Bench as well as general publications such as LiveMint, the Hindu, Economic Times etc. He has also contributed chapters to edited volumes on technology law and the Constitution of India. He frequently teaches and lectures on contract law, constitutional law and jurisprudence.
