Joyce Wambui Karanja

Biography

Joyce specialises in competition law, with a specific focus on the regimes in Kenya, East Africa and COMESA. Her knowledge of the African competition law landscape is highly valued by her clients, and she is ranked as a leader in this field by multiple international legal publications. Joyce is widely recognised as one of Kenya’s foremost experts in competition law. She provides a full range of competition and anti-trust law services including in relation to merger control, cartels and markets, abuse of dominance and other restrictive practices, dawn raid support, competition law compliance trainings and audits as well as advising on commercial arrangements such as the implications of competition law on exclusivity agreements, joint ventures and strategic alliances. Joyce has significant depth of experience in, and knowledge of, a variety of sectors including automotives, food and beverages, aviation, financial services to name a few. Her clients include local and international businesses operating in Africa as well as multi-national operations investing in Africa. She recently advised Hollard International (Pty) LTD, Amethis Africa Finance Ltd, James Finlay Limited and Holcim Group Services Limited on the competition law aspects of M&A transactions. In addition, Joyce has developed good relationships with a number of competition regulators and has been involved in a number of stakeholder discussion fora in COMESA and Kenya in relation to proposed legislative amendments.
