Sandeep Parekh

Biography

Sandeep Parekh is the managing partner of Finsec Law Advisors, a financial sector law firm based in Mumbai. He worked as an executive director at the Securities and Exchange Board of India, India’s securities regulator, where he headed the Legal Affairs and Enforcement departments and has been a faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (and visiting faculty since 2002). He has worked for law firms in Delhi, Mumbai and Washington, D.C. Sandeep focuses on securities regulations, cross border investment regulations, private equity, corporate governance and financial regulations. Sandeep has obtained an LL.M. (Securities and Financial Regulations) degree from Georgetown University and an LL.B. degree from Delhi University. He is admitted to practice law in New York, is a member of the US Supreme Court Bar and is a member of Mensa and 999Society. He was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a “Young Global Leader” in 2008. Sandeep has published op-eds in the Financial Times and the Economic Times and has been quoted in the WSJ, Economist, Reuters, Bloomberg and CNBC. He has spoken at Davos. He is the author of a well-received book “Fraud, Manipulation and Insider Trading in the Indian Securities Markets”, published by CCH Wolters Kluwer, now in it’s 3rd edition in print. He is an independent director on the board of HDFC Bank Ltd. He was the Chairman of SEBI’s Proxy Advisory working group, a member of SEBI’s Mutual Fund Advisory Committee and was a member of various SEBI and RBI Committees and Sub-committees. He sits on the Advisory Committee of School for Regulatory Studies & Supervision (SRSS) of National Institute of Securities Market (NISM). Sandeep has been a member of the Cabinet Secretariat task force for measuring performance in ministries and departments of the Government of India. He is also a member of CII’s National Council on Financial Sector and CII’s National Committee on Financial Markets, CII Committee on Regulatory Affairs, Ficci/BCCI/IMC Committee on Capital Markets. He has been recognized for exceptional standing in law by International publications like AsiaLaw, IFLR1000 and Legal500.
