Biography

Akorede Habeeb Lawal is the Principal Counsel at A.H. Lawal & Co., a litigation firm in Nigeria. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 2010, he was appointed a Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 2022. A seasoned litigator, Habeeb has prosecuted notable cases reported in Nigerian law reports and received the ESQ 40 under 40 Nigerian Rising Star Award in 2021 for his leadership and excellence. As the former National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Habeeb managed the Bar’s media relations, issued press statements, and represented the NBA in engagements with government and stakeholders in the legal and justice sectors. He initiated a collaboration between the NBA and the Body of Benchers to publish directions of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee on professional conduct cases, enhancing guidance on ethical standards. His role also involved advising law students on character and fitness requirements for bar admission and conducting orientations for newly called lawyers, providing deep expertise in the “fit and proper” character test. He is a frequent speaker on legal topics, a published writer in blogs and newspapers, and co-editor of the Nigerian Bail Application Report (2011). Habeeb is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants-Nigeria and a Graduate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered).
