Biography

Michael Caldecott is a partner in McCarthy Tétrault's Competition/Antitrust and Foreign Investment group in Toronto. Clients seek Michael’s advice to navigate complex competition and foreign investment processes to achieve their most important commercial objectives. Specialising in cross-border transactions and governmental investigations into business conduct, he combines analytical precision with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach. Michael assists clients in navigating merger investigations by the Competition Bureau, national security and net benefit reviews by the Investment Review Division, as well as advising on other competition law matters, including criminal and civil investigations into unilateral and coordinated conduct, distribution and supply-chain arrangements and competition compliance programmes. He has extensive experience in a wide range of industries, in particular in telecommunications and media, defence, retail and consumer products, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals and financial services (including fintech).
