Donal Patrick Hanley
Biography
Dr Donal Patrick Hanley is Associate (formerly Interim) Director of the Institute of Air and Space Law and Associate Professor (Professional) of the Faculty of Law at McGill University in Canada. He is also a Visiting Professor of the School of Law of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taiwan and an instructor in aircraft leasing and finance with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and others. In addition, he serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation. He was previously managing director of the Irish operations of a large commercial aircraft leasing company and non-executive director at a number of other aircraft leasing companies, having co-founded an aircraft leasing company in Egypt. Qualified as a lawyer in Ireland, England, California and Taiwan, his career spans Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America in both international law firms and aircraft leasing companies. A Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, he has over thirty-five years of experience as an aircraft leasing and finance lawyer and has negotiated and restructured leases and repossessed aircraft in many countries around the world during the course of his career as a practicing lawyer. His book on Aircraft Operating Leasing is the standard work on the law of aircraft operating leasing and he revised the latest edition of the two volume IATA International Aircraft Financing textbook. He is a Knight of the Holy Sepulchre and a Knight of Malta, representing the Sovereign Order of Malta at the 42nd International Civil Aviation Organization Assembly.
