Michelle Brané

Biography

Michelle Brané Non-Resident Fellow Cornell Law, Migration and Human Rights Program Executive Director, Together and Free Michelle Brané is currently the Executive Director at Together and Free, a nonprofit organization that provides emergency and ongoing support services to asylum seeking families impacted by federal immigration policies. She is also a non resident fellow at the Migration and Human Rights Program at Cornell Law. Michelle served as the Immigration Detention Ombudsman at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from April of 2024 until January of 2025. Immediately prior to this role, Michelle served as the Executive Director for the Department’s Family Reunification Task Force at the Department of Homeland Security from February 2021 – April 2024. Prior to her government roles Michelle served as the Director of the Migrant Rights and Justice program at the Women’s Refugee Commission. Michelle holds a BA from the University of Michigan and a JD from Georgetown University. She is admitted to the New York Bar.
