Shiva Amiri

Biography

Shiva Amiri is a Toronto-based Barrister, Solicitor and international human rights advocate whose work bridges domestic litigation and global justice initiatives. She is the Founder and Principal Lawyer at Amiri Law Firm P.C., where she leads a practice focused on family law, refugee law, and personal injury litigation. She regularly appears before the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Federal Court of Canada, and handles complex, multi-jurisdictional cases with international and human rights dimensions, often involving cross-border family, refugee, and accountability matters. With a passion for advocacy, human rights, and environmental protection, Ms Amiri integrates legal practice with international engagement. She has contributed research and advocacy to United Nations mechanisms, including the Human Rights Council, the Universal Periodic Review, and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, addressing issues such as access to remedy, and state responsibility under the Convention against Torture (CAT) and international law. She has also served as a Climate Change News Writer and Editor with the United Nations, advancing awareness of environmental rights as human rights. A member of Canadian Lawyers for International Human Rights and Amnesty International, Ms Amiri continues to champion justice, transparency, and democratic governance through legal advocacy and policy engagement. She obtained her legal education both in Canada and Australia, with undergraduate studies in Evolutionary Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Toronto, providing her with a multidisciplinary understanding of social structures, equity, and the rule of law.
