Biography

Valérie Simard is legal counsel at Justice Canada, where she has worked for over 15 years in the area of international private law. Her responsibilities include policy development and providing legal advice on matters in this field. She represents Canada as head of delegation to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH). Valérie holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) from McGill University, as well as a degree in Linguistics from the University of Ottawa. She currently serves as Vice President of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada for the 2025–2026 term.
