Biography

Svend Albæk is Visiting Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence and Senior Consultant at Charles River Associates. He worked from 1998 to 2024 in the European Commission, almost entirely in DG Competition. After some years in the Merger Task Force and DG COMP's policy directorate, he joined the Chief Economist Team in 2007, and was the Deputy Chief Economist from 2014 to 2020. From 1992 to 1997 Svend was associate professor of economics at the University of Copenhagen, where he taught industrial economics. He has published articles on topics in industrial economics and competition policy in a number of international journals and edited books.
