Shweta Shroff Chopra

Biography

Shweta Shroff Chopra is a Partner in the Competition Practice of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. She has been involved in several big-ticket merger cases in India, some involving complex remedies. Her notable cases include PVR/INOX, Reliance/Future Retail, Walmart/Flipkart, Schneider/L&T, Vodafone/Idea, GE/Alstom and Holcim/Lafarge. On the enforcement front, Shweta has been engaged in several high-profile cases relating to cartels, abuse of dominance and vertical arrangements before the Competition Commission of India, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, High Court of Delhi and Supreme Court of India. Shweta has represented prominent names such as Meta (formerly Facebook), JK Group, Carlsberg, and Maruti Suzuki. She has advised on several successful leniency cases as well (including for Mitsui OSK Lines and Globecast). Shweta has also been actively involved in driving policy changes in the space of Indian competition law, having supported on the drafting of the Competition Law Review Committee Report in 2019 and the proposed ex-ante digital competition law in India. She is also a Non-Governmental Advisor for India in the ICN and worked closely with the CCI on the Special Project on Cartel Enforcement, presented at the ICN Annual Conference 2018. Shweta was recognized in WWL: Thought Leaders - Competition Law for 2019-2022. She has been ranked as an “Elite Practitioner” in the Asialaw Profiles rankings, from 2018 onwards and recognized in the International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists since 2013. She features in ALB Asia 40 under 40 Lawyers 2021, Global Competition Review’s Women in Antitrust 2016 & 2021 and Economic Times 40 under 40 Young Business Leaders in India 2021. She has been ranked as a ‘Top 100 Lawyers’ in Forbes Legal Powerlist, 2020-2022 and was awarded the Litigation Star for Competition/Antitrust by Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific, 2023. Shweta is a passionate mental health and Diversity Equity Inclusion champion and leads the Wellbeing and Diversity initiatives at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co.
