Biography

David Gutiérrez is a Founding Partner of BLP, one of the largest and most recognized law firms in Central America. He is currently BLP’s Resident Partner in Madrid, Spain. His professional practice specializes in matters related to M&A, commercial and corporate law, and infrastructure financing. He has a law degree from the University of Costa Rica and a master's degree in international law from Georgetown University, both with honors. He is a Fulbright and an Organization of American States Scholar. Before founding BLP, David worked as an adviser to the Presidency of Costa Rica, as a foreign associate at Wilmer Hale in Washington, D.C. and a Partner with KPMG. He is a member of YPO, the premier global leadership organization of chief executives, and a fellow of the Aspen Global Leadership of the Aspen Institute. He was President of the Board of CRUSA Foundation, one of the most influential NGOs in Costa Rica. He is currently a member of the board of World Services Group - WSG, one of the most importante law firm international alliances. At the IBA, he served as officer and Chair of the Latin American Regional Forum, Chair of the Regional Fora Coordination Committe and has served at the IBA Council for many years. He is presently part of the Advisory Council of the Latin American Regional Forum. He enjoys football, and was a director of the Costa Rican Football Federation and Deportivo Saprissa, the most successful team in Central America.
