Tracy Sandler

Biography

Tracy practises corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on corporate recapitalizations, reorganizations, and restructurings and related transactions including acquisitions and divestitures. She acts as a trusted advisor to major corporations, boards, lending syndicates, bondholders and private equity sponsors, and also regularly advises court officers. Tracy is sought out for her expertise on cross-border proceedings and for her ability to provide pragmatic advice that is tailored to her clients' business issues based on deep knowledge of the category. Tracy has over thirty years’ experience advising on many of the largest and most widely known insolvency and corporate restructuring mandates, including landmark matters for Target, General Motors and Canwest Global. She also has extensive experience working with many of the largest and most widely known retail brands throughout Canada and around the world, advising on a range of matters including in respect to corporate commercial and restructuring mandates. Pairing her industry knowledge and relationships with her legal expertise and in-depth understanding of category management, manufacturing, retail finance and cash flow and supply chain management, Tracy ensures that leading brands are positioned to tackle opportunities now and into the future. Tracy served two terms on the Firm's executive committee. She is an alumnus of The Judy Project - one of Canada's pre-eminent leadership forums, uniquely designed for executive women ascending to C-suite positions at the University of Toronto's Joseph Rotman School of Management. She is also a contributing storyteller for a best-selling leadership book published in 2019 called Collective Wisdom of High - Performing Women, Leadership Lessons from the Judy Project. This book features personal stories from 70 Canadian women business leaders, in which they share their perspectives on the characteristics of great leaders. Tracy is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy (The College) and faculty member for the College’s Spring 2022 International Bankruptcy Course, a board member of both Kids Help Phone (where she sits on the Governance and Leadership Committee and is currently chairing a special project) and the Israel Cancer Research Fund. She is frequently called on to lecture on topics in her field. Tracy is recognized for her expertise by numerous industry publications including Chambers Canada (Band 1, Restructuring/Insolvency), The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (Insolvency & Financial Restructuring – Financial Restructuring), Best Lawyers in Canada (Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Law), IFLR 1000 (Restructuring and Insolvency (Highly Regarded)), IFLR 1000 Women Leaders and by The Legal 500 (Restructuring and Insolvency) among numerous others.
