Biography

Ms. SANDRA THOMPSON, THE SECRETARY, BANK OF GHANA Sandra Thompson, LLB (Hons), LLM, is a seasoned public servant with expertise in Corporate Governance, Legal and Public Sector Reforms straddling Legal and Public Policy, Access to Justice, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Project and Programme Management, Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Legal and Regulatory Advisory. She has over 30 years’ experience as a lawyer exhibiting a dynamic range of skills across private legal practice, academia and government business, with several years’ experience in the public sector at very senior levels, in positions that bridge engagement and advocacy across sectors. Sandra has led the implementation of flagship justice and legal sector reform projects in Ghana and has held strategic and advisory roles in the implementation of governance and reform projects and on topic under the broader themes of law and development in the West African sub-region and beyond. Her current role as The Secretary to the Bank of Ghana, is a multifaceted role, requiring dexterity in the deployment of a range of skills in law, corporate governance, international relations, diplomacy, corporate and strategic communications, external affairs, financial regulations, stakeholder engagement, public relations, protocol, negotiation and strategy. She is also the convener of the Bank of Ghana Board of Directors and serves as its Board Secretary. She has a passion for assisting top-teams and boards to work more efficiently, to meet the standards for good corporate governance and corporate leadership, with a commitment to inspiring teams and developing high value professionals. Sandra obtained an LLB (Hons.) Law Degree from the University of Birmingham, Central England and received an LLM in Law in Development from the University of Warwick, Coventry, England. She is a Barrister-at-Law and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Ghana, a member of the Ghana Bar Association and the International Bar Association and is also among others, a Member of the Institute of Directors, Ghana.
