Kolawole Mayomi

Biography

Dr. Kolawole Mayomi was called to the Nigerian bar in 2003, and co-heads the dispute resolution practice of the law firm of SPA Ajibade & Co, Lagos. A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, he has been involved as counsel in many high-stakes commercial disputes that have been resolved by litigation or arbitration in Nigeria over the past decade. He has handled complex disputes arising from construction and infrastructural projects, trade finance, contractual warranty claims, and shareholders derivative rights. He is listed on the panel of arbitrators for the Arbitration Foundation for South African (AFSA); the Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA), and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria; and has acted as sole arbitrator or co-arbitrator in several arbitration proceedings. He is also an accredited course tutor of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). Dr. Mayomi is regarded as a thought leader on the law relating to the use of demand guarantees and letters of credit in the securitization of export/import trade obligations, and wrote his doctoral thesis in this field. He authored many of the leading articles/book chapters on this subject, and advises corporate and financial entities on the nature and enforcement of the obligations that arise from indemnity bonds, performance bonds, advance payment guarantees, etc. He is listed as a leading practitioner in Who is Who Legal Global (Arbitration/Banking) 2023.
