Biography
Luiza is the chair of the Trademark Subcommittee of the International Bar Association – IBA and the Regional Representative for Minas Gerais of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (Associação Brasileira da Propriedade Intelectual – ABPI). She has an LL.M from the University of Cambridge and a specialization in Intellectual Property by WIPO and the University of South Africa.
Partner of Madrona Fialho Advogados based in São Paulo (Brazil), her practice is mainly focused on matters related to intellectual property - trademarks, patents, industrial designs, geographical indications and copyright -, as well as issues on confidentiality, innovation and technology. She advises companies on a wide-range of commercial transactions related to intangible aspects as well as in associated prosecution and litigations matters.
She has broad experience in working with the Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI) in Brazil and the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). She has particular expertise in advising clients in the protection of their assets in multiple jurisdictions, including within the scope of international agreements, such as the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the Madrid System, whereas within the perspective of protecting assets of Brazilian clients abroad and of protecting assets of foreign clients in Brazil.
Recognized by World Intellectual Property Review as one of 20 Trailblazers in the 2020 edition of the WIPR Influential Women in IP. Also recognized by Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, IP Stars, WTR1000, IAM Patent and Analise Advocacia for her practice in intellectual property.
