Sophia Adams Bhatti
Biography
Sophia is a public policy expert with over 20 years’ experience working a cross a number of sectors including the law, financial services, competition, consumer affairs, health care and immigration and asylum. She has worked extensively across Whitehall and internationally. A renowned expert on policy making, especially in the field of business ethics, AI ethics, human rights and regulation, she majors on the intersection of law, policy and technology. Having started her career at the UN, she is currently the Global Head of Policy, Purpose and Impact at Simmons & Simmons LLP a global law firm, HQ in the City of London. Previously, she was the Director of Policy and Regulation at the Law Society of England and Wales, where she led a large team focused on law reform programs, and as part of which she spearheaded ground breaking investigation of the use of AI in criminal justice field. Prior to that Sophia was the Head of Strategy at the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and the Deputy Director of Strategy at the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). She is a recognised author and regularly speaks on issues related to the rule of law, technology and AI, regulation, sustainability and policy. She is an independent member of a number of advisory groups on related issues and a non-executive director at Amnesty International UK.
