Biography

Katarina Klaric is a Director and Principal of Stephens Lawyers & Consultants, a boutique commercial law and business consultancy firm, with specific expertise in intellectual property, e-commerce and information technology, arts, media and entertainment, defamation, franchising, competition and consumer law, biotechnology and pharmaceutical law, privacy and data protection, and international trade. Katarina is skilled in both commercial business transactions and dispute resolution and litigation in these areas. Katarina Klaric has over 20 years of litigation experience in major cases including appeals to Federal and State Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia. Katarina Klaric has also represented clients in investigations by regulators and inquiries and most recently the Royal Commission into Police Informants – Lawyer X. Katarina Klaric has also held positions as a Board member, non-executive director and member of audit and risk management and intellectual property and commercialisation committees of companies including Australian subsidiaries of US listed companies. Katarina's legal expertise and corporate experience places her in a position to advise and deal with regulatory compliance, corporate governance and risk management. Katarina Klaric was the Editor of "Intellectual Forum" the official law journal of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand from 1997-2002. Because of her expertise in the intellectual property, information technology and e-commerce and work in the industry, Katarina participated in a US State Department funded E-commerce and intellectual property program which involved the study of intellectual property, e-commerce, entertainment and media issues in the United States. Katarina was one of the founding members of the AIIA Export Club which was set up as forum for Australian ICT companies intending to export or exporting their technology into overseas markets. Katarina Klaric has also mentored women involved in international trade or seeking to expanding their business globally, as a part of the Woman In Global Business (WIGB), Austrade initiative. Katarina Klaric is a passionate about the arts and entertainment and has been advising artists, writers, musicians, performers, electronic games developers, film producers and promoters for over twenty years in areas. Katarina is involved in film projects completing the Victorian College of Arts, University of Melbourne, Foundations in Film and Television course in 2019. Katarina is an Associate member of the Screen Producers Association. Katarina is also a member of the panel of referral lawyers of the Arts Law Centre of Australia.
