A webinar presented by the IBA Rule of Law Forum, supported by the IBA North American Regional Forum, IBA Latin American Regional Forum, IBA Litigation Committee and IBA Judges Forum.
This series will examine the impact of coups and other constitutional crises on the rule of law through three recent case studies: Brazil, South Korea and the United States. Each webinar will examine:
• Anti-constitutional measures
• Remedies taken through legislature/courts and public recourse
• Accountability after the fact and long-term impact forecasts
Legal scholars and practitioners around the world are under attack and strategising the restoration of the rule of law, both domestically and internationally. Through the case studies presented, the series seeks to illuminate ‘what works’ in different societies battling authoritarian measures and distil lessons learned. This session will focus on Brazil.
