A webinar presented by the IBA Alternative and New Law Business Structures Committee, supported by the IBA Law Firm Management Committee, IBA Technology Law Committee and IBA Criminal Law Committee
As a continuation of our March 2024 webinar, this webinar seeks to feature another set of distinguished panellists on cybersecurity, this time delving into the hot topic of why lawyers should consider it an alternative practice. Five highly topical themes will steer the momentum that started in March: 1. discussing proactive and reactive measures that law firms can implement in the absence of stringent regulations (whereby focus will be placed on preemptive actions, the response during cybersecurity incidents and post-incident recovery); 2. manoeuvring across the regulatory landscape (which will require an examination of the existing gaps in specific cybersecurity regulations and the implications for legal practices); 3. dealing with insurance issues (which will require a deep dive into the complexities and necessities of cybersecurity insurance for law firms). 4. evaluating the strategic and technical implementation of these structures in practice (ie, the strategic actions needed to technical requirements necessary for law firms to establish a dedicated ‘Cybersecurity Practice Area’); and 5. exploring investment requirements for establishing cybersecurity structures (which include recruitment strategies, necessary training, capital expenditures and operational expenses).
