The ethics of criminal defence in international trials

Julie is a partner in the Regulatory team at Kingsley Napley LLP. Julie specialises in advising clients in the legal services sector on regulatory compliance, ethics, investigations, enforcement, and prosecutions. Recent work includes advising law firms in investigations arising out of counter inclusive behaviours and in SRA prosecutions concerning breaches of the Money Laundering Regulations. Julie is ranked as Band 1 in Chambers & Partners Guide to the UK Legal Profession and listed in the Hall of Fame in the Legal 500.

Andrew is a partner at CM Murray LLP, a London based boutique firm specialising in employment, partnership and professional discipline matters. His own area of specialism is professional discipline/regulatory matters, where he is ranked as a "Next Generation Partner" in Legal 500. His particular specialism is the regulation of lawyers, where he advises both firms and individual partners in relation to misconduct allegations and self reporting obligations to the UK regulator (the Solicitors Regulation Authority). He has had conduct of/assisted in lengthy and complex proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. Andrew works closely with law firm General Counsel and compliance officers to assist them in complying with their regulatory obligations. He provides training to law firms on how to avoid and deal with conduct issues, including sexual misconduct. He also has substantial experience in professional negligence claims, having edited the "lawyers liability" chapter of the second edition of the "Law of Legal Services and Practice" (John Gould).

Kate Gibson is the President of the Association of Defence Counsel practicing before the International Courts and Tribunals. She has been appearing before international criminal courts and tribunals since 2005, representing accused in cases involving conflicts in Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cambodia, Sierra Leone and the former Yugoslavia. Currently, Kate is the co-counsel of Bosco Ntaganda before the International Criminal Court, and also represents Rohingya victims in the Bangladesh/Myanmar situation. Kate also leads the legal team of Paul Rusesabagina, charged with terrorism in Rwanda, and is a member of the Defence team of former President of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague. Previously at the International Criminal Court, Kate spent 10 years representing Jean-Pierre Bemba, former Vice-President of the DRC who was acquitted by the ICC Appeals Chamber in 2018. She was also the co-counsel of former President of Liberia Charles Taylor before the Special Court for Sierra Leone, and the Co-Counsel of former President of the Republika Srpška Radovan Karadžić before the UN Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Kate was one of the youngest Lead Counsel appointed at the UN Tribunal for Rwanda, representing Minister Justin Mugenzi who was acquitted on appeal. In 2018, Kate was appointed as a Legal Consultant to the UN Independent International Fact-Finding Mission for Myamnar, in Geneva. She holds an LL.M in International Law from Cambridge University.

Meg Strickler focuses her practice on internet crime and technology law. She counsels clients on complex information privacy and security issues, theft of intellectual property, computer intrusions and online fraud. She has given lectures around the globe on topics such as intellectual property offenses, computer hacking crimes, and wire fraud. Through the years, Ms. Strickler has chaired and lectured on a variety of transnational and international legal panels at legal seminars around the world concerning cyber security, anti-corruption, business crime, human rights, and international criminal law.

Italian criminal lawyer, founder of Studio Lucev, specialized in white-collar criminal defense and compliance advisory. Riccardo has gained vast experience in the defense of individuals and corporations in complex criminal investigations, such as on financial crimes, tax crimes, environmental crimes and workplace injuries. He also provides assistance on compliance matters that arise in Italy for corporations (e.g. drafting of compliance programs under the so-called "law 231" or the drafting of whistleblowing procedures). Riccardo speaks Italian, English and French.
