The climate crisis - podcast

Rapid and far-reaching change to address the climate crisis is now urgent.

The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has warned that time is running out to avoid global temperatures rising to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels.

Civil society and strategic litigation are now forcing governments and corporations to take long overdue action, as the impact on human rights – particularly for some of the world's poorest and most vulnerable people – becomes increasingly evident.

Speaking exclusively to IBA Global Insight's Ruth Green are:

• David Boyd, the UN's Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment, who warns that continuing to invest more in fossil fuels than renewable energy is the wrong direction;
• Jasper Teulings, General Counsel for Greenpeace, who emphasises how citizens and courts are holding governments and corporations to account, in the absence of effective legislation; and
• Roberto Cadiz, the Commissioner on Human Rights in the Philippines, who has led a groundbreaking inquiry that underlines the links between human rights violations and climate change
