IBA partners with leading law schools on International Legal Practice Program
The International Bar Association (IBA) has partnered with three prestigious law schools to deliver the International Legal Practice Program. The advanced online training initiative – which aims to give participants a robust understanding of international legal frameworks, cross-border transactions and dispute resolution – has been developed alongside FGV Sao Paulo Law School in Brazil, King’s College London in the United Kingdom and IE University School of Law in Spain.
The online course will run from 29 October 2024 – 22 April 2025 and will be taught in English with classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
This initiative, promoted by the IBA, completes one of the five priorities laid out by the current IBA President Almudena Arpón de Mendívil Aldama and has been developed jointly with former IBA President Fernando Peláez-Pier (2009-2010) and IBA Head of Operations Joe Bell.
President Arpón de Mendívil said: ‘The younger generation of lawyers are not only the future, but already the present of the legal profession. The IBA has dedicated an additional effort to setting up this program, filling the current gap of truly cross-border programs due to limits imposed by national regulations. Young lawyers may now learn the best skills to practise in a growing international environment. Teaming up with leading law schools across the world was of the essence to achieve that goal.’
Mr Peláez-Pier commented: ‘The IBA is delighted to offer this program for legal professionals working at an international level. The global marketplace is evolving, and it is vital that lawyers working across jurisdictions stay abreast of current developments while having a thorough grounding in the foundations of international legal practice. This program is a must for all those practising lawyers.’
The program is comprised of self-paced content, live classes (also available for on-demand viewing) and real-world case studies. All participants will receive certificates from the IBA and the universities involved following completion of the program, which consists of four modules each containing nine units. Each unit takes approximately 10-15 hours to complete over a period of two and a half weeks. The International Bar Association (IBA), the global voice of the legal profession, is the foremost organisation for international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies. Established in 1947, shortly after the creation of the United Nations, with the aim of protecting and promoting the rule of law globally, the IBA was born out of the conviction that an organisation made up of the world's bar associations could contribute to global stability and peace through the administration of justice.
