Getting to know the ERF - Tine Mišic

1. What does being European mean to you?

For me, being European has always felt very personal and genuine. I grew up in Nova Gorica, on Slovenia’s border with Italy, watching that border gradually become less and less of a dividing line and more of a meeting point. Today, with Nova Gorica and Gorizia jointly holding the title of European Capital of Culture 2025, that experience feels especially meaningful.

It taught me early on that Europe is not just an idea or an institution, but a daily reality of shared cultures, languages, economies and opportunities. My studies in Naples (Italy) and Leiden (Netherlands) further shaped that view, as did my current work at ODI, bridging jurisdictional gaps in the region (including co-heading ODI’s Italian Desk and helping clients navigate between the two markets).

2. What would you like to accomplish in the ERF in 2026?

Generally (not specifically limited to 2026), I would like to contribute to the ERF by strengthening practical connections between lawyers, firms and business communities across Europe, especially between larger markets and dynamic regional jurisdictions such as Slovenia and South-East Europe.

I see the ERF as an excellent platform for exchanging ideas, building trust and addressing the legal issues that increasingly require cross-border thinking — from investment and transactions to competition, regulation and dispute resolution. My aim is to be an active, useful and approachable contributor to that dialogue.

3. Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?

Sport has always been a big part of my life, as I have, to my best efforts, tried to follow in my parents’ footsteps. Notwithstanding law becoming my main focus, I have always actively practised various sports (for example, basketball, football, running golf, winter sports), and I still find that it shapes the way I work: discipline, teamwork, resilience and a healthy competitive spirit all translate surprisingly well into legal practice. Luckily enough, I have also managed to merge sports into my day-to-day work to a certain extent.

I also very much enjoy travelling, especially when it allows me to reconnect with the different European cultures that have shaped me — whether in Italy, the Netherlands or closer to home between Nova Gorica and Gorizia.
