Belarus: IBAHRI joint submission to the UN Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review

The International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) has made a joint submission alongside the Belarusian Association of Human Rights Lawyers to the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review on Belarus.
The submission centres on the human rights situation in Belarus, with particular attention given to attacks on the legal profession and on the independence and impartiality of the judiciary in the country. Politically motivated prosecutions, the suppression of freedoms and the failure to provide access to fair trials in Belarus are also discussed in the report, which concludes with recommendations for the government to improve the situation for human rights defenders in the country.
