BIC Crimes Against Humanity Working Group

The Crimes Against Humanity Working Group was established in response to the United Nations General Assembly Sixth Committee’s consideration of a proposed international convention on the prevention and punishment of Crimes Against Humanity. The group provides a forum for legal practitioners and experts to examine developments in this area of international law, with a particular focus on developing guidance and resources for the legal profession.

The focus of the group:

  • Expressing the IBA’s general support for the initiative, signalling endorsement from the global legal community to governments, potentially through a Presidential statement and/or a Council resolution in advance of the negotiations early next year.
  • Supporting the engagement of civil society, including bar associations and NGOs.
  • Identifying and articulating any specific changes required to the components of the Convention, as a primary focus of the group.
