Singapore is a place that truly has it all – a fusion of rich multiculturalism, cosmopolitan skyscrapers, and lush natural beauty. From hiking scenic trails and exploring vibrant neighbourhoods to indulging in world-class cuisine and soaking in breath-taking city views, Singapore invites you to experience its one-of-a-kind charm.
To help you make the most of your time in this incredible city – host of this year’s IBA Annual Litigation Forum – we’ve put together this guide. Whether you're looking to bask in nature, savour moreish local delights, or lounge by the bay with a coffee (or cocktail), there’s something for everyone.
Let’s dive into a day that captures the heart and soul of Singapore.
Morning: a hearty start and nature’s escape
Begin your day with a quintessential Singapore breakfast at Ya Kun Kaya Toast, a cherished institution with over 80 outlets across the island. Delight in its signature thin, crispy toast generously coated with butter and coconut jam (kaya), best complemented with perfectly silky soft-boiled eggs and a robust cup of local-brewed coffee (kopi), setting the tone for the day ahead.
After breakfast, take a refreshing hike up Bukit Timah Hill, Singapore’s highest natural peak. Tucked within the lush embrace of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, this scenic trail offers a serene escape from the city’s bustle, where towering trees, lush rainforest and local wildlife such as long-tailed macaques and colugos, create an enchanting retreat.
For a more leisurely alternative, wander through the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a testament to Singapore’s dedication to green spaces. Admire the vibrant flora, and revel in the tranquillity of the world-renowned National Orchid Garden, home to a breath-taking collection of orchids in full bloom.
Early afternoon: a taste of tradition and island adventure
After your morning adventure, make your way to New Bahru, a dynamic lifestyle destination set in a repurposed high school complex in River Valley. Blending modern flair with old-school charm (no pun intended), it’s home to a curated mix of local brands across dining, retail, and wellness.
For lunch, Nasi Lemak at The Coconut Club is an absolute must. A Michelin Bib Gourmand awardee, this spot elevates the classic dish with premium ingredients and impeccable execution. The dish features perfectly steamed coconut rice, fiery sambal, crispy fried chicken, and anchovies. Put simply, Nasi Lemak is Singaporean comfort food at its finest. To round off your meal, try kueh salat, a delightful traditional Nonya treat made from glutinous rice, kaya custard, and coconut milk.
For those seeking a more refined dining experience, opt for lunch at Arbora or Dusk on Mount Faber Peak, followed by a scenic cable car ride to Sentosa. Once on the island, soak up the sun at Siloso or Palawan Beach, marvel at marine wonders in the S.E.A. Aquarium, or explore the countless attractions at Resorts World Sentosa.
Late afternoon: indulgence and iconic sights
After an eventful morning and afternoon, slow down with an exquisite afternoon tea at the Fullerton Hotel or Fullerton Bay Hotel. Delight in a refined selection of pastries, sandwiches, traditional scones, and desserts infused with a Singaporean twist – a perfect way to unwind.
Alternatively, be awed by the architectural marvels of Gardens by the Bay (GBTB), where nature meets artistry. Visit the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, two of the world’s largest cooled conservatories, before heading up to the Supertree Observatory for panoramic views of GBTB’s lush landscapes and the Marina Bay area.
Evening: city lights and culinary delights
As the sun sets, make your way to the Marina Bay Sands waterfront promenade, where you can soak in the iconic Singapore skyline – a dazzling fusion of towering skyscrapers and shimmering city lights reflecting off the bay.
For dinner, take your pick from the world-class restaurants that Marina Bay Sands has to offer, including Wakuda, Estiatorio Milos, Maison Boulud, Koma, Mott 32, Cut by Wolfgang Puck, and more. End the night with a cocktail (or two) at Lavo or Spago. For those looking to experience Singapore’s nightlife, head down to Basement 1 where you will find Marquee Singapore – the city’s largest nightclub.
If you’re keen to explore Singapore’s famed food scene, Newton Food Centre is a must! This lively hawker centre, famously featured in Crazy Rich Asians, offers a wide selection of local delights. Be sure to try barbecued stingray or squid with sambal, Hainanese chicken rice, or char-grilled satay. Pair your meal with a refreshing sugarcane juice or ice kachang, a colourful shaved ice dessert.
As your day in Singapore comes to an end, one thing is certain – this city’s allure is irresistible; and we are confident that it will draw you back time and time again. Until we meet again, may the memories stay vivid and the adventures never cease.
