Keith Hiatt

Biography

Keith Hiatt is a lawyer (California bar) and an authority on large-scale management and analysis of digital information and evidence for international criminal investigations and prosecutions. Keith founded and leads the Information Systems Management Section at the United Nations International, Impartial, and Independent Mechanism for Syria (IIIM), where he is responsible for information and evidence management, internet exploitation, cybersecurity and technology. He has served as a member of the IIIM’s Senior Leadership Team since its inception. Prior to joining the United Nations, Keith served as Vice President for Human Rights at Benetech in Palo Alto, where in 2017 he launched a groundbreaking AI for video evidence initiative. Before Benetech, he served as Director of the Technology Program at the Human Rights Center at the University of California, Berkeley, where he co-chaired the Technology Advisory Board of the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court. Keith holds a J.D. from UC Berkeley School of Law and was a judicial clerk for the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Prior to law school, Keith worked as a software engineer at Microsoft and an applied technology specialist at Boeing.
