Carsten Stahn

Biography

Carsten Stahn is Professor of International Criminal Law and Global Justice at the Leiden Law School and Queen's University Belfast. He is former Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Law in Heidelberg and former Legal Officer at the International Criminal Court. He holds LL.M. degrees from Paris I/Cologne and NYU, as well as a PhD and a Habilitation from Humboldt University Berlin in Constitutional Law, International & International Criminal Law. He received the Ciardi Prize of the International Society for Military Law and multiple research grants from the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO) on Post-Conflict Justice and the law of transition from conflict to peace (VIDI grant). At Leiden, he directs the Research Programme on Exploring the Frontiers of International Law. His most recent works include The International Criminal Court in its Third Decade (Brill, 2023), Confronting Colonial Objects (Oxford University Press, 2023) and Justice as Message (Oxford University Press, 2020).
