Biography

Deepak Acharya is the Group General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer of the Aditya Birla Group (ABG). With his team of over 450 Lawyers in the Group, Deepak is responsible for providing integrated business solutions, keeping in view applicable legal environment. Deepak and his team plays significant role in the Group’s mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures (both domestic and cross-border), and corporate re-structuring. Aditya Birla Group is in the League of Fortune 500. Anchored by an extraordinary force of over 140,000 employees belonging to 100 nationalities, the Group is built on a strong foundation of stakeholder value creation. With over seven decades of responsible business practices, ABG have grown into global powerhouses in a wide range of sectors – metals, pulp and fibre, chemicals, textiles, carbon black, telecom, cement, financial services, fashion retail and renewable energy. Today, over 50% of Group revenues flow from overseas operations that span 36 countries in North and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Deepak started his career in the year 1992 with Procter & Gamble where he worked for over 25 years in total including at P&G’s Geneva Regional HQ for four years and with Singapore Regional HQ for six years. Prior to his current role, Deepak was General Counsel & Chief Risk Officer of Wipro Limited a Global IT Services Company where he worked for approx. five years. Deepak is a Law graduate from the Government Law College-Mumbai and is a Fellow member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and an Associate Member of the All-India Management Association.
