Christian Albanesi

Biography

Christian Albanesi is a Partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in Washington, D.C., where he focuses on international arbitration. He has served as lead counsel and arbitrator in complex cross-border disputes across Latin America and beyond, representing multinational corporations, sovereign states, and state-owned entities before leading arbitral institutions including ICC, ICSID, LCIA, PCA, AAA/ICDR, UNCITRAL and domestic arbitral institutions. His practice spans investment treaty arbitrations, large-scale commercial disputes in the energy and infrastructure sectors, and post-M&A claims. He also advises clients on compliance investigations and sensitive crisis matters. Before joining private practice, Christian served as Managing Counsel at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris, supervising all nine case management teams of the Secretariat. He previously led the Latin America, Spain, and Portugal team, overseeing hundreds of arbitrations from filing through scrutiny and notification of awards. This institutional background informs his approach to case strategy and tribunal dynamics. Christian is admitted to the Paris and Buenos Aires Bars and registered as a Special Legal Consultant with the DC Bar. He is recognized by Chambers & Partners as a leading International Counsel in International Arbitration for Latin America-wide since 2021, ranked as a “Most in Demand Arbitrator” Band 1 since 2025, and named a “Highly Recommended Global Leader” by Who’s Who Legal Arbitration since 2022. He has handled cases as both counsel and arbitrator in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
