Biography

Mr. Kawai renders a wide range of services to both domestic and overseas clients, covering every area of competition law. In the area of merger regulation, he has represented several major manufacturing industries with regard to large scale merger and acquisition transactions with their competitors. In the cartel area, he defunds clients before the JFTC in most of the major international cartel cases, and works for Japanese companies with regard to cartel investigations in multiple jurisdictions. He continues to be recognized by several international law journals as one of the top practitioners in Japan, and to be nominated as one of the most active Japanese lawyers by major Japanese companies in the Nippon Keizai Newspaper. He is now serving as the President of Japan Competition Law Forum from 2023.
