Biography
Calvin was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2005, after obtaining First Class Honours in both architecture and law at the University of Hong Kong and the Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford.
Calvin’s practice has since developed to cover a broad range of areas, with special emphasis on construction/arbitration disputes as well as company/commercial matters. He is regularly instructed to appear in disputes relating to large construction or commercial projects in Hong Kong, Macau, the Mainland PRC and the Middle East, including cross-harbour tunnel, casino development, coal mines, substantial commercial complex, hotels and residential properties. Apart from appearing in Hong Kong Courts of all levels, he is also frequently instructed to appear in arbitrations.
In addition to his private practice, Calvin is a co-author of the book “The Commission of Inquiry in Hong Kong”, a former Contributing Editor of “Hong Kong Construction Law”, and a former Consultant Editor of “Hong Kong Law Reports and Digest”. He has also spoken at various seminars on construction/arbitration and company law topics.
He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Construction Law Committee of the Bar Association, a Council member of the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong, and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators. Calvin was also appointed Deputy District Judge in 2018, 2021, and 2022.
He is recognised in Legal 500 as the Leading Junior in Construction and Property, one of the Future Leaders in Who’s Who Legal Construction, and ranked in Chambers and Partners’ Greater China Region in the field of Commercial Dispute Resolutions. Calvin was also accredited in the Pre-eminent Junior Counsel category by Doyle’s Guide for Leading Construction and Infrastructure Litigation Barristers – Hong Kong.
