Biography

I am a US-qualified lawyer, Asia-based, known for my sanctions and corporate work. I have been described in an independent directory as "...one of the leading sanctions experts in Asia". I advise on US and other economic sanctions & trade controls, especially those administered and enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the Bureau of Industry & Security (BIS). I provide sanctions due diligence checks; advisory work in relation to sanctions-affected deals, trades, individuals, companies, groups, countries, commodities, vessels and aircraft, in both contentious and non-contentious scenarios; advise on import/export requirements, restraints, controls and licensing; obtain specific licences from sanctions regulators; represent individuals and corporations in delisting applications and conduct sanctions staff training. I also have extensive experience of guiding clients through new market entries, complex M&A, joint ventures, disposals and corporate closures across eastern Asia. I have particular expertise in many highly-regulated business sectors. My career has taken me to New York, London and Asia, latterly Singapore where I have now been based for several years. I am an Asia specialist, having spent over 20 years assisting clients in doing business throughout the region, including in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. I have also presented and spoken at forums across the globe about sanctions. Among a broad base of clients, I regularly advise and assist various high-profile insurance, financial services, energy, marine and commodities sector businesses.
