Carmelo Fontana

Biography

Carmelo Fontana is a technology attorney with extensive experience in the fields of intellectual property, data protection and technology transactions. In January 2011, he joined Google legal department where, as a Senior Regional Counsel he handles the Italian commercial and regulatory practice. Carmelo currently acts as the EMEA AI legal regional lead, specializing in the regulation of artificial intelligence. Carmelo is a public speaker and university lecturer on the topics of innovation policy, consumer Internet, technology deals and negotiation. Carmelo is the co-founder and President of AIRIA, a think tank focusing on the regulation of AI. Carmelo is qualified to practice law in California and in Italy and is a US Certified Privacy Professional. Carmelo holds a LL.M. degree in Law, Science and Technology from Stanford Law School, a J.D. summa cum laude from LUIISS Guido Carli and is a Fulbright and Rotary scholar.
