Biography

Sam Townend KC is the Chair of the Forum for Barristers and Advocates and was Chair of the Bar Council of England and Wales for 2024. Sam is a Silk at Keating Chambers and his practice is in domestic and international construction, energy and professional negligence work. He is also an arbitrator, mediator and adjudicator, and a Bencher of Lincoln's Inn. Sam was the co-chair of the Bar Council Legal Services Committee in 2022, chaired the Bar’s Regulatory Review Working Group and was Vice-Chair of the Bar in 2023. He is a former member of the Young Barristers’ Committee and Treasurer of the Free Representation Unit. He sits on Middlesex County Cricket Club's Governance and Ethics Committee.
