Gerwin Van Gerven

Biography

Gerwin Van Gerven is a senior counsel with Linklaters LLP, in its Brussels office. He has over 30 years’ experience in representing clients in antitrust regulatory investigations, litigation and counseling in a broad range of sectors. He has assisted clients in filings and investigations around the world and advises on global antitrust compliance and strategies. He has been involved in over 20 Phase II merger investigations before the European Commission and national competition authorities as well as numerous contested Phase I investigations. Some of the major cases he was involved in over the years include Shell/Montecatini, Neste/Statoil (creating Borealis), Boeing/MDD, Kesko/Tuko, Exxon/Mobil, Vodafone/Mannesmann, GdF/Suez, J&J/Guidant, J&J/Synthes, US Airways/American Airlines, Intel/Altera, AB InBev/SABMiller, Energizer/Spectrum, SK hynix/Intel’s NAND and SSD Business, Vodafone Italia/TIM/ INWIT JV. On the non-merger side, his work has included numerous cartel investigations and other conduct investigations. He has also been involved in the Microsoft, Intel and Google investigations. Gerwin is consistently named in directories as one of the leading competition lawyers. He has been a non-government advisor for the International Competition Network (ICN) since its early days. He has written and spoken extensively on European and international antitrust law. He graduated in law and economics from the University of Leuven and from Harvard Law School.
