Alison Howell

Biography

Alison specializes in FCPA monitorships, having in-house roles in two companies, Ericsson and VEON/VimpelCom, that successfully completed four- and three-year FCPA monitorships, respectively. She managed the end-to-end allegation management process, oversaw the development and implementation of risk assessment and monitoring & testing programs, ran the Monitor Liaison Office, acting as the primary point of contact for the independent compliance monitor, and advised on U.S. and EU sanctions laws. Prior to her in-house roles, Alison was in private practice in the U.S. corporate and arbitration practices of Shearman & Sterling (now A&O Shearman) in London and Paris, and before that, at McCarthy Tétrault, in Ontario. Alison is a member of the New York, Paris and Ontario bars, based in Amsterdam. She has an LL.B. and B.C.L. from McGill Law School and a Master's in Philosophy from Western University. She is a passionate believer in pro bono and volunteers regularly for U.S.-based NGO Lawyers Without Borders as a trainer for their wildlife trafficking training programs, which train judges, prosecutors and wildlife officers in East Africa.
