Biography
Mr. Lungisani Zulu is the President of the Law Association of Zambia and also chairs the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee of the SADC LA, a grouping of 16 Southern African Bar Associations.
He is a Partner in the Commercial Law Firm of Equitas Legal Practitioners based in Lusaka, Zambia. He is also the President of the Savannah Law Network, a network of African law firms and lawyers leveraging the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement through seamless cross border legal services.
As Bar President, he set up the Task Force on Climate Change to build the capacity of the country’s legal profession to support Government and Business Community in green initiatives and the climate change agenda.
As Chairperson and the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee of the SADC LA, he has been leading efforts in raising awareness of climate change in the legal profession and what lawyers can do to contribute more effectively to the climate change agenda.
Lungisani was a recipient of the Climate Law practitioner award at COP 27 in 2023, a global leadership award for advancing climate law and governance in Zambia and globally by the Climate Law and Governance Initiative (CLGI) a coalition of the global climate law and governance community.
Lungisani is an experienced Arbitrator, a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators UK, and serves on the World Bank’s ICSID panel of arbitrators and was instrumental in setting up the Lusaka International Arbitration Centre (LIAC), to deal with the challenge of delayed commercial disputes in Zambia. His practice areas include banking and finance, commercial dispute resolution, international trade and investment, mining and corporate advisory as well as being an accredited insolvency practitioner.
Lungisani holds a Master of Laws Degree from Cornell University, Bachelor of Laws Degree from University of Zambia and an Advocate of Superior Courts. He is passionate about private equity.
He is a firm believer that leadership is about influence, proactively and innovatively influencing positive change for collective progress.
