Biography
Glenna Thompson was called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Inner Temple in 1993 and is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone having been appointed in July 2017. Prior to her appointment, she practiced law, in the areas of crime, family and general common law, first in Chambers in London, England then since 2002 in Sierra Leone working in corporate law as well as crime including as part of the defence team at the Special Court for Sierra Leone.
She has worked extensively within justice sector development in Sierra Leone as a consultant and trainer including for donor funded projects. She was a member of the first drafting committee on the Criminal Procedure Bill, the drafting committees for the Anti-Corruption Act 2008 and the Domestic Violence Act 2007.
She developed the manual on Criminal Justice Best Practice and led the team that developed the Justice Sector Reform and Investment Strategy II for the Government of Sierra Leone, developed the Strategic Plan for the Ministry of Justice for 2013-2015, the Manual for State Prosecutors and drafted a report on Commercial Law and Justice in Sierra Leone which later formed a component of the Justice Sector Reform and Investment Strategy III and IV.
She is a former Prosecutor and Director of Investigations, Intelligence and Prosecution for the Anti - Corruption Commission and was a member of the Constitutional Review Committee, representing the Sierra Leone Bar Association.
She served as a Director and later Chairman of Ecobank Sierra Leone, Chairman of the General Legal Council (GLC) and Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the GLC. She is also a lecturer in Professional Ethics and Advocacy at the Sierra Leone Law School. She has been a contributing author to publications on arbitration and dispute resolution, mining law, and project finance. She is a member of FIDA, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
She was appointed an Honorary Bencher by the Honourable Society of Inner Temple in November 2021.
