Aoife M Foley

Biography

Professor Aoife Foley prior to academia spent circa 15 years of international experience as an engineering professional. She was also previously Professor in Sustainable Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast (UK). She holds her degrees across key engineering sub-disciplines with a PhD in Engineering (University College Cork, Ireland), Transportation Engineering (Trinity College Dublin, Ireland) and Environmental Engineering (University College Cork, Ireland). She is one of the world’s leading engineering scholars working on the global issue of climate change through her work on manging the societal transition to the net-zero. Her work has been published in all the leading interdisciplinary energy and society journals in the world including Nature, Nature Energy and Renewable Energy. Aoife has given keynote presentations across the world and has received multiple awards including for research innovation that leads to real world impact (e.g. Bill Curtain Award 2019; Jose Maria Sarriegi Major Catastrophe Research Award 2019). Her teaching has been recognised with multiple awards and includes affiliate positions with the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT, USA). She has served and chaired committees for international grant awarding, national engineering societies and professional bodies. A key part of the Professor Foley’s is her development and management as Editor in Chief of the top-3 global journal in international interdisciplinary energy and society research, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, ranked number 1 in the world by Google Scholar in sustainable energy.
