Biography
Charanya is a Partner specialising in Tax and Disputes (Commercial and Regulatory) at Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan (LKS). She is an Advocate on Record with the Supreme Court of India.
In her career spanning over 15 years, Charanya has handled high stakes and controversial disputes in areas such as tax, arbitration, regulatory and anti-trust. She has extensive experience in the areas of Customs, Goods & Services Tax as well as Pre-GST tax laws where she regularly argues cases before various tax tribunals, High Courts and the Supreme Court of India. Her clients include leading automotive, FMCG, pharmaceutical, infrastructure, e-commerce, e-gaming, energy, and oil & gas companies.
Charanya has also worked in the Chamber of K K Venugopal, the former Attorney General of India. While at the Chamber of Mr. Venugopal, she has worked on a wide range of subjects, ranging from constitutional law, arbitration, and competition law. She has also assisted the Attorney General in landmark cases such as the inclusion of the right to privacy as a fundamental right and the challenge to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code. She has assisted him in advising various public sector undertakings and government ministries, including the Ministry of Information & Technology, Ministry of Environment & Forest, Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Ministry of Railways.
Charanya also handles disputes before various regulatory bodies including the Competition Commission of India. She represents India on the Cartel Committee of the Asia Competition Association. She has advised clients extensively on Data Protection and is assisting them in transitioning their businesses to be compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act.
She is also a professional Indian Classical vocalist and performs at select events across India.
