Alisa Whitfield

Biography

Alisa Whitfield (she/her) is a Senior Staff Attorney in Immigration Equality’s Refugee Program. In this position, she works directly with LGBTQ+ refugees seeking to be resettled to a safe country, and advocates for policies that protect refugees. Alisa has been working with immigrants and refugees since 2011, including work and volunteer work in Canada, Ecuador, South Africa, and the United States. Alisa’s work in immigration law has focused on refugee and asylum cases and other forms of humanitarian immigration relief. Alisa also taught immigration law as a Clinical Teaching Fellow at the Immigration Justice Clinic at Cardozo School of Law in New York City. In addition to her work with Immigration Equality, she has recently been an adjunct clinical professor at Cornell Law School in the Immigration Law and Advocacy Clinic. Alisa has a BA in International Relations from Stanford University, and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School. She is a member of the California bar and speaks English and Spanish. She is currently based in Toronto, Canada.
