Biography

Sofia Cardona studied Law in the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializing in International Law. She has worked as a research assistant in the Latin-American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO); and subsequently worked in the General Directorate for Human Rights in the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She began working for UNHCR in Mexico on November 2016 as a Resettlement Associate, undertaking interviews and case-management of highly vulnerable cases, mainly GBV survivors, and she is currently Senior Protection Associate, serving as the national focal point for Gender-Based Violence, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, and LGBTIQ+ Persons for the UNHCR Mexico Operation.
