Fabienne Schaller

Biography

Fabienne Schaller is President in the International Commercial Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal (ICCP-CA), which was created in 2018, dealing mainly with appeals in international arbitration and international commercial cases. Prior to this she served as an appeal Judge in the Commercial Division of the Paris Court of appeal (2016-2018), specialising in commercial litigation with respect to transport law, unfair competition, agency and wrongful termination of contracts. She served as a first instance Judge in the white collar crime division of the High Court of Paris (2014-2016). Between 2008 and 2014, she worked at the Ministry of Justice participating in negotiations for EU directives on procedural safeguards in criminal proceedings and several international conventions within the Councill of Europe in Strasbourg, among which the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs and the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, also known as “the Istanbul Convention”. Fabienne holds a Master in law from the Paris-Nanterre Law School and a LL.M in trade regulation from NYU Law School. She was admitted to the bar in Paris and in New York. After practicing as a lawyer in Paris since 1986 and New York since 1992, namely with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, she joined the Bench in 1997 and was appointed as a Judge in the first instance courts of Paris and other locations, and as an appeal judge in 2016. She teaches arbitration law at the Ecole de Formation du Barreau. She is an active member in SIFOCC (standing international forum of commercial courts) since 2018 and joined recently the IBA Judges’ Forum.
