Fernando Tamayo

Biography

Mr. Tamayo focuses his practice on government investigations, white collar criminal defense and complex commercial litigation. He works extensively in anti-corruption, anti-bribery and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) compliance and training and advisory services. In his government investigations and white collar criminal defense practice, Mr. Tamayo represents clients in a wide variety of matters including domestic and cross-border investigations, federal grand jury proceedings, trial work in federal and state courts and FCPA compliance. He has defended both individuals and corporations against allegations of money laundering, mail and wire fraud, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act violations and other charges. Mr. Tamayo has also spearheaded internal investigations for corporate clients in Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. As part of his practice, Mr. Tamayo has also successfully appealed red notice designations to Interpol and defends individuals against extradition to foreign countries. He also has experience representing clients in the appeal of sanctions designations before OFAC, and in the applications for OFAC licenses. Mr. Tamayo frequently speaks at international and domestic bar conferences on matters of white-collar criminal law and is an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law where he has taught a course in International Anti-Corruption Law and Practice since 2019. Mr. Tamayo has also appeared as a legal analyst multiple times on CNN Español.
